Quality of Life

Streets and Sidewalks

I support funding street, sidewalk and alley maintenance. These should be in the operating budget, not in bond issues. We should not issue 20 year bonds to take care of everyday repairs.

Parks and Recreation Centers
As a Park Board member I worked to improve communication with neighborhoods regarding park and recreation center renovations. I will continue to stress communication with neighbors when city projects affect District 13 neighborhoods, including the upcoming renovation of the Walnut Hill Recreation Center and the possibility of a dog park at Royal Park.

I will continue to communicate with police regarding the regular patrolling of the parks, especially at night, and stress the continued improvement of trash pickup in parks. I support the plans to expand hiking and biking trails and make them more accessable to residents of District 13 as well as to make Dallas more pedestrian-friendly.

Air and Water
City Hall should set an example by using drought tolerant plants at city parks and facilities as well as on median strips. This will reduce maintenance as well as the use of water. We must continue to work regionally to improve air quality. This affects our health, our quality of life and prospects for economic development.
