Meet Ann Margolin
I came to Dallas with my husband Fred Margolin 31 years ago to start an insurance business.
Dallas is my home!
This is where we have raised our children Richard and Jane (both in college).
Dallas has been good to me and my family and it is my great pleasure to give back to this wonderful city!
I grew up in the small town of Cranford, New Jersey. My mother was a teacher and my father was a furniture salesman. I attended public schools. I have one brother, James, who now lives in Dallas, as does my mother, Edith. (My father passed away six years ago.)
My mother stayed home to raise us and went back to teaching when I started college to help pay for my education. I was extremely fortunate to get a wonderful education, majoring in communication at Northwestern University where I got a B.S. and an M.A and at Columbia University where I got an M.B.A.
Shortly after moving to Dallas, I joined the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce. That's where I met Jerry Bartos, who asked me to co-chair his campaign for City Council in 1987.
When Jerry took office he asked me to serve on the Dallas Planning and Zoning Commission. Several years later County Judge Lee Jackson asked me to join the Parkland Hospital Board where I spent 6 years. I was honored to spend the last 2 years as the Chairman of the Board having been elected to that position by my fellow board members.
Last year Mitchell Rasansky asked me to serve on the Park and Recreation Board which was also a wonderful experience. It has allowed me the privilege of getting to know many neighborhood associations and crime watch groups. That gave me an opportunity to work with the neighbors and discover the changes the neighbors would like in their parks. I was also able to coordinate meetings with the police when criminals (often drug dealers) invaded parks at night.
I have also been involved on the boards of many other organizations including Safer Dallas Better Dallas (supports the police), president of Girls Incorporated (after school programs for low-income girls), YWCA, World Affairs Council and many others. See Ann's experience and awards.
I am now ready to take on a new level of service as a member of the Dallas City Council, looking after the interests of District 13 while working for the future of this vibrant, city that is my home!
