Concession Contract
The existing Love Field concession contract was signed in 1996 for 10 years plus a 5-year option which expires on June 30, 2011.  It is important to have concession services for travelers until the new airport is opened. The new airport will open in phases.

Changes will take place for concessions in April, 2013 when the first 12 gates open in the new concourse and 12 gates close in the existing West Concourse.  In 2014 the remaining gates that are now open will close and open in the new terminal.   It is not anticipated that the number of flights or passengers will decline during construction.

Love Field Modernization Plan/Wright Amendment
The reconstruction of Love Field, known as the Love Field Modernization Program is the direct result of the repeal the Wright Amendment.  The Wright Amendment originally limited most nonstop flights from Love Field to destinations within Texas and neighboring states.  Under the 2004 repeal, the ban on nonstop flights will end in 2014 and Love Field's maximum gate capacity will be lowered from 32 to 20 gates.

Love Field is owned by the City of Dallas and Southwest Airlines is its largest tenant.  Southwest and Dallas agreed to construct a new terminal to be complete in 2014, to be paid for with bonds issues by the city and paid back by Southwest and the other smaller tenants.  So the airlines will pay for the terminal.
