A message from Ann
Crime is on our minds
I had assumed the Whole Foods parking lot was safe.

Since hearing about the brutal robbery there I have been looking over my shoulder much more.

Unfortunately we can't let down our guard. So, I devoted this month's newsletter to crime, crime watch, crime statistics and the search for a new police chief.

Kunkle Retiring/Hiring New Police Chief
Police Chief David Kunkle is retiring April 30. City Manager Mary Suhm is conducting a national search for a new chief.

If you would like to provide input to Ms. Suhm, please take a moment to fill out this survey.

It is my desire that the new chief be committed to reducing all crime, but with a strong focus on the property crimes that are plaguing our residential neighborhoods.

I want someone who will bring innovative ideas to Dallas.  I want a strong leader and manager who can communicate well and is accessible. But most of all, I want someone with absolute integrity.

District 13 News and Information
It's easy going green
I have learned that that only 75% of District 13 homes use recycling containers!

Pickup is the same day as regular trash pickup. Recycling earns money for the city and it also reduces the use of landfill.

Learn which items you can recycle
Order a recycling container to be delivered to your home

Need tax help?
From now until April 15, the Dallas Public Library is offering free income tax assistance.

Find out of you qualify for tax credits, receive free tax counseling and preparation services, get the tax forms you need and more. Visit the Library's Income Tax Help Web page for details.

Help District 13 count!
By mid-March, every home in District 13 should receive a 2010 Census questionnaire by U.S. Mail.

Please help ensure that everyone in District 13 is counted by completing and returning your Census form on or before April 1.

Encourage your friends and family across Dallas to do the same.

District 13 News and Information
In the zone
Residents have for many years wanted immediate access to city zoning. Good news, the City of Dallas has just gone live with a new Web site that provides up-to-date information on zoning ... for the entire city.

Up until now, limited zoning information was available online and it was only updated on a quarterly basis.

The new Web site provides access to all aspects of zoning for every part of Dallas and will typically be updated within two weeks of zoning ordinances being passed by City Council.

City facilities to close Fri., Feb. 12 for Furlough Day and Mon., Feb. 15 for President’s Day
City offices, libraries, recreation centers, the animal shelter and administrative offices for police, courts and sanitation will be closed these days.

Police and fire will respond to calls as normal. Garbage and recycled materials will be collected as scheduled for residential customers.
